We generally use GPS to figure out how we can go from a location A to location B. From route control to fleet management, the GPS is extensively used in many sectors. Medical is the latest sector which is using GPS for research and development. Many researchers and doctors believe that there is a huge scope of this technology in this field and can make the treatment more convenient and patient friendly.

Recently, a research was done by the an Israel-based medical school, in which a method was developed for detecting the physical activity and mobility of the patients who had gone through surgery as an objective measure for their follow-up recovery and well-being. The patient just has to carry a GPS device with him/her after the surgery, tracking their movements, which are then analyzed. This makes the whole recovery process very easy since the patient’s data which is collected by GPS is accurate, the doctor can take the best decision regarding those patients health. The even patient can’t give false data about their daily activity. For instance, if the doctor suggested a patient to walk 5 km in the park, the patient cannot present wrong data about the walk if he/she is monitored with GPS.

According to many researchers, GPS will be very helpful in bringing the advancement in the health sector. Future development in GPS technology and health sector will integrate additional sensors that will allow the combination of GPS data with physiological data, such as heart rate and blood pressure. Many health practitioners and doctors are jokingly saying that GPS is not just for lorry tracking it can also be used for tracking human health.
