Noida Authority seems to be in a rush — it has to comply with the orders of its chairman, Alok Sinha, to improve the existing infrastructure before the monsoons strike.

"The Authority should repair the roads and clean all the drains before the rains. It also needs to beautify the Noida-Delhi entry points and reduce pollution in the city,” Sinha said.

Manish Verma, additional CEO of Noida Authority, told City Spidey, “As a first step, we have identified all major drains in the city. The irrigation drain [which originates at the Delhi-Noida border near Sector 11 and merges into the Yamuna in Sector 150], the Harola drain, the drain at sectors 21-25 and the NPEZ [Noida Export Process Zone] drain will be cleared up before the arrival of the monsoons.”

Omvir Singh, director of horticulture, Noida Authority, said, “As far as possible, we will try to lower the levels of dust pollution on the roads. We have also identified the roads for the first phase. They include a 4-km stretch on the Dadri-Surajpur-Chhalera road, or the DSC Road; a 3-km stretch of the Master Plan I road, which passes through NTPC; a 2.5-km road that passes through sectors 42 and 43; and a 3.5-km stretch of the Master Plan III road, which passes between sectors 60 and 61. We will also beautify the Noida-Delhi entry points with flowers and plants.”

Grass and trees will be planted on the dividers and vacant spaces to reduce dust flying in the air. “We have made a cost estimate for the project, and it has been sent to the higher authorities for approval,” Singh added.
