5 Energy Consuming Beasts You Want to Destroy

A lot of us don’t go for the obvious when they are looking at a home improvement project. The obvious would essentially be to reduce costs. Now you would think that is exactly what you do when you decide on home improvement projects. Well yes, but not entirely. We see the best and the most cost-efficient way to replace a sofa or do a paint job, what we often overlook is what is adding to your costs, what is increasing your month on month expense. It would be ideal to replace or get rid of it entirely and in turn get rid of the associated cost.

What I am referring to here is the devices that consume a lot of electricity. Some may be a lower quality make or some may have become old and hence pulling a lot of power. These need to be upgraded or replaced just like your fan or paint.

Here are some of the beastly appliances that consume the most amount of electricity

Heating/Cooling

It should always be remembered that anything that heats or cools consumes a lot of electricity in the process. A lot of Americans invest in heating systems, almost as much as 12 percent of the total electricity. Chargers

Almost all of us have a dedicated place for our precious chargers. These chargers are kept plugged in at all times whether they are being used or not. It is important to keep in mind that when they are plugged in, they always draw some amount of electricity constantly. There are two things that you can do to combat it, one, be compulsively obsessive about unplugging your charger when you are done charging or invest in smart chargers that turn off when the device is fully charged. Either way, you will be saving on a whole load of energy consumption by something that is not even being used.

Gaming consoles

The dedicated game room is your beast here. If the gaming device is always plugged in, just like the chargers, they are pulling electricity at a constant rate. Either unplug them once you are done or if you are one of those who games till the break of dawn, then invest in consoles that turn themselves off once they know you are asleep. Artificial intelligence is a far way off, but you do get ones that have a shut-off time after they have been idle for a set period of time. 

Old appliances

A new appliance would pull less power than an old one. The old appliances would pull more power as its parts have given way and due to wear and tear, it would start pulling more power to work and provide the same efficiency as before. Unless you have a sentimental attachment to the appliance, consider replacing it. It is a one-time investment that will provide returns in the form of monthly energy conservation.

While such replacements and expenses might be the need of the time, but they are just burning your pockets out.
