Whenever we go to super market to buy stuff or do online shopping we always think before buying, is it really worth it? Am I getting the value for the price I’m paying? Should I buy now or wait for some seasonal discounts. Can I get the same product at lesser price at some other store? These are some of the questions that strike into our mind while purchasing.

Now I want to ask each one of you how often do you think before going to any place or before investing your time somewhere or with someone? How often do you think about the take away or results of any activity you are going to perform/ get involved in?


They say time is money! We have been hearing this since years but have we ever taken it seriously? Is the measurement of worth of time really done? Is it given the thought that ought to be given? Is my time really not worth, that I should give a thought before spending it? Does it not have value? Or am I not valuing it as it should be done?

Now question is how would you find out if something is worth your time or not? Of course you won’t be able to measure it in absolute money terms?? You can’t say my time is worth Rs. 2000 per hour or so to a friend who wants you to join him for a party at club. Or is there any other unit to measure. The worth of time cannot be measured. It depends on an individual’s priorities.

If you save your funds from unnecessary expenditure it’s a saving. When you spend your time at right place it’s an investment which has long term implications. We give enough thought and time to plan our finances and investments but why not the precious time?


Do we don’t complain after attending a boring family get together or going on shopping with a friend on his/her insistence leaving something more important. Do we don’t regret taking those frequent coffee breaks in office, chilling and then stretching till late at the end of the project. Don’t we regret those inefficient hours in office surfing Facebook and other sites for long.

Why regret if we can plan it!

To do should be in the list: Yes we should plan it in advance. As they say every event happens twice once in our mind and second when actually it happens. We should prepare a detailed framework (plan) of our daily routine including the weekends. Especially weekends because on weekends you have more time, and the more time you have the more time you waste. Plan should be for both personal and professional tasks because at the end of the day you have to balance both of them.

When to plan: It can be prepared in the night before sleep for the next day. Please keep in mind, plan should be practicable and achievable. On the other side, it should be challenging, so that it gives you zeal to get up next day with vigor and get on to the work.

Plan must go on: Try to stick to the plan as much as possible. Be disciplined and strict to yourself unless any emergency arises. Suffer the pain of discipline or the pain of regret!

Don’t have a green status always: If you always live up to people’s expectations you won’t be able to live up to your expectations. So start saying a humble no. Think twice or thrice before committing. Don’t commit immediately. Whether it’s your boss in office or a friend don’t be available always.

Love the work you do and don’t do the work you hate: I know it’s easier said than done! But stop slogging your ass off for that 9-6 job, if you are really not enjoying it. Explore yourself, know what you like and then pursue it!

Peak hours are not meant for you: If you stay in metros like Bangalore or Delhi traffic would be a big issue. Plan your day in such a way that you can avoid those peak hours of traffic! Take advantage of those flexible timings of your office. Don’t go to supermarkets on weekends, the time when everyone rushes there. Take early offs from work some day and finish up those tasks, order online as much as possible.

Start valuing yourself: Most importantly, once you start valuing yourself and your time, it always be easy to set your priorities.

Once you take the control of your life rather than getting controlled by the situations, start initiating actions instead of reacting over circumstances, efficiency and productivity in your work will be clearly evident. You will be handling your relationships smoothly and will have more time for yourself. The feeling of satisfaction and fulfillment will of course be increased.
