5 Indian teams make it to the semi-finals of Hyperloop One's Global Challenge

Hyperloop One announces 35 semifinalists of its global competition

US startup Hyperloop One on Friday, announced 35 semifinalists of its Global Challenge, reported Yahoo!. Last year, in May, Hyperloop One hosted a competition around the world and invited startups, research agencies, institutions and government agencies to participate in an effort to bring the Hyperloop to their countries or states. The startup received 2,600 entries from around the world and has narrowed down the competition to 35. Interestingly, out of these, 11 teams are from the US, 5 from India and 4 from the UK.

Some of the notable proposed routes include Mumbai to Delhi (India), Los Angeles to Ensenada (US), London to Edinburgh (UK) and Madrid to Tangiers (ES). All the five teams from India are required to present their projects at a showcase event which will be held on 28th of February in New Delhi. Some of the top contenders include Indore-based startup DGWHyperloop and Hyperloop India, which an alliance formed by BITS Pilani students. 

Elon Musk, the entrepreneur behind innovative transportation companies Tesla Motors and SpaceX, is credited with the Hyperloop idea. Leading to the formation of two companies: Hyperloop One and Hyperloop Transportation Technologies (HTT).

While this competition is going to get a lot more exciting, the real challenges will occur after routes have been finalised. Hyperloop One is expected to reveal an undisclosed number of finalist teams in May 2017.
