Losing his home in the bushfire hasn’t stopped this Australian pharmacist from helping those in need
Raj Gupta, a 52-year-old pharmacist in Malua Bay, has been serving the local through his medical store despite losing all his personal property in the bushfire.
Tough time calls for tough choices. The recent incidents of bushfires raging in Australia has ravaged the green cover of the continent and also killed around one billion millions. Amidst this natural disaster, the world has also witnessed the spirit of humanity and great gestures that have saved numerous lives.
Raj Gupta, a Malua Bay Pharmacist, Raj lost his private property in the bushfire and is living in a temporary accommodation in Batemans Bay. Despite his plight, the 52-year-old is keeping his pharmacy open to serve those in need.
Speaking about the patients, he said,
“Patients I have known for years have come into my pharmacy having lost all their medications in the fires. When you have lost your home, there is no power or telephone and it might be weeks before you can get in to see a doctor, to turn them away with just a few days of life-saving medicines to tide them over because of some bureaucratic rule - it just needs to be fixed”, reports Medianet.
Fortunately, in times like these, officials authorise pharmacists to provide medical aid with or without prescription. This is only when if the pharmacist is convinced that the patient is in need of the required medication. This has helped Raj to provide many with the required medical supplies.
Raj does not take any money from the customers as he believes that once everything comes returns to normal, the customers would pay him back.
He told SBS,
“We can't take payments, but that's not much of a concern. The concern at this time is to make sure people can be helped, that we can fulfil their requests."
