Nitin Arora is an actor, an entrepreneur, a television anchor, a voiceover actor, a radio jockey, and more.

Most recently, he essayed the role of a Brit-Asian cop in web series Dangerous, a thriller starring Bipasha Basu and Karan Singh Grover in the lead roles.

He says, “I play the role of a cop, who is actually more of a detective. It’s a beautifully defined role. In fact, when producers Mika Singh and Vikram Bhatt suggested it and discussed the characters, I was very excited about one of the characters, a Brit-Asian guy named Jagmohan or Jags.”

Dangerous is Nitin’s debut in the growing world of OTT content and platforms, and the actor says the role of Jags has been one of the most exciting ones he has ever played.

The chilling thriller web series is a story of two cops trying to solve a kidnapping case and is streaming on MX Player.

He has previously starred in movies like Jugaad, Youngistaan and Anaarkali of Aarah. And when Nitin is not dazzling people with his acting skills, he is busy customising spectacular star-studded shows for his company Katalyst.

Behind the scenes

Working with Bipasha Basu was a pleasure, says Nitin. “She is a very professional actor, comes on time to the sets, and is friendly with all her co-stars,” he adds.

According to Nitin, the 55 days of shooting for Dangerous were some of the best days of his life.

He says, “The best part was shooting in Northampton and London. There was a lot of preparation I had to go through before the shooting. I am a huge fan of Sherlock Holmes — both the films and the series — so maybe, I did have a desire to do a role like this. I loved my time on the sets, dubbing and preparing for the role. Dangerous packs in quite a punch as there’s a twist in the story every few minutes."

Before the shooting began, Nitin watched a lot of detective movies and suspense thrillers.

He also had to prepare in advance for the action scenes. “On one occasion, we had to do a couple of outdoor shots and action scenes together,” he recollects, “It was very cold that day and during one of the scenes, it started raining and the area became very difficult to shoot in. When we were running and doing the scenes, we were very scared that we might slip, but fortunately, no mishap happened. It was very risky because it was raining throughout the shoot.”

A man of diverse interests

Nitin has many interests and talents

Nitin has juggled many roles with ease. He says, “When I was doing radio shows, I was also doing voice overs. Soon, I got into television. At times, it was very difficult, like when I was shooting for Youngistan. I used to travel every day from Delhi to Lucknow and back.”

“But we learn from each and every aspect of our life. As long as we are learning we are living. The day we stop learning we will stop living,” he adds.

As the MD of Katalyst Entertainment, an entertainment solutions provider, Nitin works with a team of entertainment curators, delivering special performances, and collaborations for weddings and private functions across the world.

Katalyst also came out with its first-ever production venture recently, starring Alia Bhatt in her maiden music video in a trendy track Prada. Now, Nitin has started shooting for his fourth venture Kwatha, starring Aayush Sharma and Isabelle Kaif.

Challenges, changes, and the way ahead

On challenges that actors face today, Nitin says, “One of the worst-hit industries during COVID-19 is the entertainment industry. As of now, live events have been stopped. Fortunately, people have started shooting videos and television shows and a couple of OTT series will release in October. So, hopefully, things will get better.”

He believes that while OTT platforms have taken the lead because there is no new content on television and movies are unable to release on the big screen, Nitin says, “Once multiplex and malls reopen, people will return because of the experience factor. An outing with the family to a multiplex has its own charm.”

According to Nitin, acting is a beautiful space but you should learn the craft. “Gone are the days when it was all about on-the-job training. Now, you have to prepare before taking up any career option and train for it beforehand,” he explains.

As for the future, Nitin plans to go into production full time, and adds, “By November to December, we will start producing movies again. And once the pandemic is over, we will get back to events, weddings, and everything else we used to do before.”
