Actor Vijay's fans claim Oscar-winning 'Parasite' is inspired by Tamil film 'Minsara Kanna'

South Korean film Parasite, directed by Bong Joon-ho, won big and created a record at the Academy Awards. But fans of Tamil superstar Vijay claim that the Oscar winner draws inspiration from Vijay-starrer 'Minsara Kanna'.

South Korean film Parasite took home the coveted ‘Best Picture’ award, including Best Director, Best Film, Best International Film, and Best Original Screenplay trophies, at the 92nd Academy Awards that took place earlier this week .

However, many Indian fans of Tamil actor Vijay had a different take on the winning film. They felt that Parasite borrowed many elements from the actor's 1999 romantic hit Minsara Kanna.

Internet trolls went on Twitter and Facebook to say that there were striking resemblances between the two films.

For starters, the plot line in both films is about a rich family being conned by a poor family, because of the protagonist’s love for a millionaire heiress.

Parasite directed by Bong Joon-ho is a dark comedy, while Minsara Kanna is a romantic comedy. However, both films have one thing in common: they highlight a poor family’s quest for economic gain, and how they will do nothing to achieve it.

According to fans, Parasite shares the same theme. In the Korean film, a poor family of four con a rich, upper-class family into hiring them. The son is hired as a tutor, the sister as an art therapist, the father as a driver, and the mother as a housekeeper. The story reveals the deep class divides that arise in society.
