Naveen Tewari, CEO, InMobi, said while announcing this news: “According to IDC, smartphone shipments are expected to pass one billion for the first time in 2014. Mobile has become the foundation of peoples’ lives, it is now the preferred media platform—overtaking even TV—it is how people obtain necessary information for everyday life. With this growing reliance on mobile devices, naturally, advertising budgets are following consumers. Five years ago, a brand that included mobile advertising in its portfolio was ahead of the curve. Today, if you’re not advertising on mobile, you risk losing an entire generation of consumers.”

Recently, Dr Avneesh Agrawal, President, Qualcomm India & South Asia, told us that by 2017, there would be about 3.5 billion smartphone users. “Mobile is the new architectural approach. Managed connectivity is the buzzword. Mobile is transforming homes, vehicles, health services, wearable tech, etc.” In fact, according to Gartner, Inc, in 2013, a total of 1.8 billion mobiles were sold worldwide. And for the first time, smartphones have outsold feature phones selling 968 million device units. That is 53.6% of overall mobile phone sales for the year. What is most exciting for Indian startup ecosystem is that with a 166.8 percent increase in the fourth quarter of 2013, India exhibited the highest smartphone sales growth among the countries tracked by Gartner.

The InMobi CEO shared: “Our platform processes 240 TB of data per day to make the best possible decisions to deliver the most relevant content to the user. Reaching consumers via mobile has become common, but providing the best user experience, including engaging ad formats, precise targeting, and delivering consistently relevant messaging, relies on the intelligent processing of big data and continued innovation.”
