4 steps to achieve work-life balance
“Don’t confuse having a career with having a life.” – Hillary Clinton
There are no free lunches in life. Everything has a price attached to it. All that matters is what’s worth paying for. Work-life balance is a necessity in today’s fast-paced life, one where the impact of making money and enjoying a lucrative career overshadows personal life. Work is a significant part of one’s life. It helps you pay the bills and also gives you a sense of accomplishment. But a happy personal life keeps you going when the going gets tough. The imbalance between the two might negatively impact your productivity, physical health, and mental health.

These points will not only help you keep your personal and professional lives separate but also help you maintain a perfect work-life balance:
Prioritise
A to-do list is always helpful in prioritising work in the decreasing order of their importance. Time management is the key here. Good time management skills create a clear line of distinction between your personal and professional lives. Urgent deliverables should always receive the first preference.
Embrace technology
With the entire world rapidly moving towards automation, performing tasks manually becomes more time consuming and difficult. This makes it important to embrace technology to reduce the time taken and the burden of performing a plethora of tasks. But at the same time, unplug from technology when spending time with your loved ones.
Do not overcommit
Be aware of your potential and capabilities, but do not take more than what you can chew. Overcommitting at your workplace or your home increases stress. Besides your responsibilities at work and at home, consider the most important factor – yourself. If you fail to be happy you can’t keep others happy.
Adapt
‘Survival of the fittest’ is a theory which holds true everywhere. Like a chameleon can adapt to its changing surroundings, so should you. Lack of adaptability guarantees stress, so change is the only way to go. Therefore, adapt well and don’t try and resist change.
Work life balance helps you to get best of both the worlds. It’s important to demarcate your personal and professional lives clearly. Hence, you should learn to say no when those boundaries start getting blurred.
