Saturday February 11, 2017 , 2 min Read

PhotoSparks is a weekly feature from YourStory, with photographs that celebrate the spirit of creativity and innovation. In this photo essay, we showcase the brilliant art work, installations and music from the annual Kala Ghoda Arts Festival in Mumbai!

In the earlier 120 posts, we brought you a wide range of creative photographs from an art fair, world music festival, painting fair, telecom expo, art museum, mobile showcase, math museum, social hackathon, bookstore, co-working space, sensorium, international design week, flower show, outdoor ads, startup roadshow, computer museum, startup T-shirts, business cards, art therapy, startup festival, Diwali rangoli, Vesak, jazz festival, modern art gallery, ecopreneurs, painter-poets, health activists, eNGOs and digital innovators.

Now in its ninth edition, the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival aims to preserve and refurbish the heritage arts district of Mumbai, and promote awareness about traditional and emerging cultural forms. Held in South Mumbai from February 4-12, the lineup includes craft workshops, children’s art, dance, comedy, literature festival, music showcase and cinema screenings. The Kala Ghoda Association has also worked with the Urban Design Research Institute on restoration of art works in the area.

In this photo essay, we showcase some of the installations at a wide range of venues: Rampart Row, Cross Maidan, Horniman Circle Gardens, Max Mueller Bhavan and Jehangir Art Gallery. Music performances were held at the Cross Maidan and the Asiatic Steps, as well as indoor venues like Boston Butt; we end this showcase with the performance of Russian-Algerian singer-songwriter Scherezade.
