3 ways to stay motivated to achieve your goals

3 ways to stay motivated to achieve your goals

Wednesday May 03, 2017 , 3 min Read

Setting your goals is the first and most fundamental step. However, what comes after that step is more important. To set your well-set plan into motion, you need the motivation to get up and get working towards the same goals on a daily basis. You are bound to face a number of predictable and unpredictable hurdles along the way, but you have to keep trudging on if you want to reach the finish line. You might feel your motivation dwindling if these hurdles are too difficult or last for too long. However, if you lose your motivation, your goals will be a lost cause. The moment you start feeling like your goals are a distant dream and maybe you don't have what it takes to achieve them, give yourself a renewed dose of motivation. Here are three ways to do it:

Make a note of your progress

Start by noting down where you began and how far you've come. When you write your accomplishments down on paper, you can easily chart your progress. In addition to your big achievements, note your smaller efforts too. Remember, every little attempt you make in the right direction takes you closer to achieving your end goals. After a period of three to six months, evaluate all that you have noted down and see how much closer you are to fulfilling your dreams. Nothing can motivate you more than the realisation of how much progress you’ve made.

Always keep your eyes trained on the end goals

When you keep reminding yourself of the benefits of achieving your end goals, you'll work towards the bigger picture with a renewed fervour. There will be countless distractions along the way vying for your attention. When you come face-to-face with these unnecessary complications, ask yourself one important question – is this task going to lead me to my end goal? If the answer is no, push aside the distraction and move on. When you don't allow yourself to take your eyes off of the bigger picture, you keep pushing yourself to take just one step more. At the end, all these steps will help you reach your end goals.

Establish a dynamic daily routine

Instead of letting everything ‘go with the flow’, establish a daily routine which will help you keep things on track. Start by understanding how much work you can manage in a day's time. Once you have that under control, set an effective agenda so you don't have to constantly assess how much progress you've made. When you do this, you not only follow an orderly routine on a daily basis, but you also motivate yourself to complete the day's tasks that you've set for yourself.

In addition to the above, reward yourself for your timely accomplishments and take regular breaks to rejuvenate yourself. Use the above mentioned three tactics and you'll move closer to your goals with each passing day.
