Students Innovate with an Idea of Self Defence

Friday April 05, 2013 , 1 min Read

With the idea of self defence, Manisha Mohan a student of Aeronautical Engineering along with Niladri Basu and Rimpi Tripathi students of Instrumentation & Control Engineering at SRM University have come out with a novelty of protecting women using Society Harnessing Equipment (SHE).

An electric circuit designed by the students

Quite apt to the name of the product, SHE is a system devised inner wear which gets activated in case of any attempt of rape. The circuitry consists of a system actuated with sensors and electric shock circuit board. Further plans are to interface the system with a with a smartphone using bluetooth and infrared. The pressure sensor will send a signal to the smart phone through bluetooth which will in turn send stress messages instantly to the people who need to be contacted in cases of emergency.

The current shortcomings is that the device needs to be made more compact.

SHE is also a winner of Gandhian Young Technological Innovation Award initiated by SRISTI (Society for Research and Initiatives for Sustainable Technologies and Institutions).
