Delhi touted to be the biggest market in India.
After consolidating presence in 45 plus markets in 6 continents since its launch in 2010, Uber starts operation in Delhi today. Headquartered in San Francisco, CA, Uber today has 400 employees across globe and is backed by some leading venture capitalists - Google Ventures, TPG Capital, Jeff Bezos, Goldman Sachs, Benchmark Capital, and Menlo Ventures.
Delhi will be a big market for Uber, probably the biggest in terms of size and presence.We had recently covered the Bangalore launch, which according to sources has got good initial response.
A mixed fleet comprising of Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, Mercedes E & S class, BMW 3 & 5 series and Audi Q3, A4 and A6 will be part of the Uber Delhi offering.
In the initial few weeks, Uber will be covering Central and South Delhi with parts of Gurgaon. The whole of NCR will happen in gradual progression.
Giving due importance to safety on Delhi and NCR roads, the key in app feature which Uber will have is - Share my ETA.
A user can share their ETA with their friends and family once they’ve boarded the car at the press of a button. The friend/family member gets a text message with a unique link giving them information about the car’s precise location in real time, driver’s name and car details. The other person doesn’t need to be a Uber user to receive this information.
Also split fare feature will be integrated in the offering "Split Fare" when you are riding with friends or colleagues and want to split the fare. It’s as simple as just pressing a button. You can share the bill for any ride you take.
