Truecaller launches Truedialer, a smartphone dialer app
It was back in 2003 when Alan Mamedi and Nami Zarringhalam, students at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden, got together and started talking about their experiences with smartphones. They were wondering about the possibilities and challenges that existed and how the experience can be made better. What resulted was Truecaller- a solution for perennial problems related to spam calls. The company has grown to have more than 85 million people around the world using Truecaller to help manage their contacts and calls, with millions more joining each month. Truecaller has now launched Truedialer, a dialer app. Announcing the launch, they wrote on the blog,
Since the first sighting of the Android smartphone back in 2008, many of the phone's native apps have gone through improvements throughout the years; except the dial pad. Let's just say it is 'ordinary' and has been in much need of a new look and way of searching for the people you want to contact.
Truedialer automatically searches for information about a number the user is dialing. As one types in a number, Truedialer seamlessly searches the user's contact list and Truecaller’s database of over a billion numbers. One can instantly learn the name of an individual or business belonging to a number you dial, even if they’re not in your contact list.
Truedialer sits on top of Truecaller and helps users find who they are looking for when they are ready to make a call. If the person is in your phonebook – Truedialer will find them – and if the person is not in your phonebook, Truedialer will look into the Truecaller service to help find the right contact.
Truedialer is available for the Windows and Android at the moment. We tried the Android App and it is complimentary to Truecaller app. There is a certain degree of a learning curve as one has to change dialling habits but it comes in handy when you're looking for someone whose number you don't have. Features include:
- Automatical search for information about a number you are dialing
- Access over 1 billion contacts through the Truecaller integration
- Automatically fill in missing contact information in call log from Truecaller’s database
- Quick dial for calling favorite contacts with T9 search (predictive text)
Truecaller has had its own share of issues with privacy but it has managed to stay afloat and grow at a good pace. The company also raised close to $20 million from Sequoia Capital and this new move is a step in a direction towards becoming more dear to a user and not just be a phone number directory. Truedialer has just been launched and we'll keep you posted on how this step pans out.
