Creative writing workshop on Jan 30

Creative writing workshop on Jan 30

Tuesday January 19, 2016 , 3 min Read

At YourStory, we believe everyone has a story to tell. You could be an entrepreneur who wants to tell your story to investors as briefly (and with impact) as possible. You could be a student looking to apply to colleges abroad and need to tell your story in a long form essay. You could be a homemaker and want to start your own blog to share the treasure trove of stories you have accumulated about people around you. You could be hopelessly in love and want to bare your soul in love letters to your sweetheart. Or you just want to become a published author.

Here’s an incredible opportunity to arm yourself with the tools of storytelling with YourStory’s Creative Writing Workshop. Learn to tell your story from some of the best literary writers in town.

The day-long session will comprise an introductory session on creative writing that will cover style, narrative, craft, and different forms of creative writing. The sessions -- ‘Why write’, The art and craft of storytelling’, ‘The thrill factor’, ‘Finding poetry in the mundane’ and ‘How to market your writing’ -- will be led by Shinie Antony, Andaleeb Wajid, Zac O’ Yeah, Sourav Roy, and Shradha Sharma.

Shinie Antony has written four short story collections – The Orphanage For Words, Barefoot and Pregnant, Séance on a Sunday Afternoon, and Planet Polygamous, and the novels When Mira Went Forth and Multiplied and Kardamom Kisses. She has compiled the anthologies Kerala, Kerala, Quite Contrary and Why We Don’t Talk. Co-founder of the Bangalore Literature Festival, she won the Commonwealth Short Story Asia region prize in 2003 for her story A Dog’s Death. Her latest work is an Amar Chitra Katha novel - A Kingdom For His Love.

Andaleeb Wajid is the author of eight published novels – Kite Strings, Blinkers Off, My Brother’s Wedding, More than Just Biryani and The Tamanna Trilogy. Her Young Adult novel When she Went Away was published by Duckbill in October, 2015. She has two upcoming novels in 2016 with Penguin and Hachette. Andaleeb enjoys writing about food, relationships and sometimes even weddings.

Zac O’ Yeah is an author, literary critic and columnist. He used to work at a theatre in Gothenburg, Sweden – where his much-celebrated detective novel ‘Once Upon A Time In Scandinavistan’ is set. He toured with a pop group until he retired early at 25 and came to India. Since then he has published 13 books. His latest, ‘Hari, a Hero for Hire’, was released last year.

Sourav Roy writes for YourStory. He is also a Hindi poet, and has three books of poems published. He is the editor of Karnakavita, an anthology of Hindi poets based in Bengaluru, published by Atta Galatta. He is the Hindi editor for Indiaree, a multilingual literary magazine currently being published in five languages. He has translated US historian Howard Zinn’s plays into Hindi, currently under publication. He is researching Asian poetry, and translating selected poets into Hindi.

Shradha Sharma is the CEO and Chief Editor of YourStory.
