Snapdeal forays into hospitality segment, launches hotel and catering supplies’ category

Snapdeal forays into hospitality segment, launches hotel and catering supplies’ category

Tuesday August 12, 2014 , 2 min Read

Delhi-based online marketplace Snapdeal has announced its entry into the hospitality segment by launching the category of ‘hotels and catering supplies’. Users can browse through 50,000 products across brands like cookware and bakeware, dining and serving and bar & glassware among others.

Snapdeal’s foray into this category will help upcoming restaurateurs, individuals and groups who are handling catering businesses. Consumers can shop for an assortment of products, including heavy gauge cutlery glassware, professional knives and so on.

The eBay funded company has been adding new categories aggressively this year. Earlier it had forayed into service e-commerce segment via e-learning vertical with courses like test preparation material, certificate courses, and classroom training among others.

“This launch will further strengthen Snapdeal’s leadership as a marketplace and a shopping destination for all kinds of products across categories which fulfill customers’ both home and business requirements. In the future, we also plan to integrate a whole range of hotel linen (mattresses, pillows, bed linen and bath linen) into the category and thereby meet all the needs of a hotel/ restaurant,” said Tony Navin, Senior Vice President – Electronics & Home at Snapdeal.com.

Last month, Snapdeal had launched Seller Zone App for Android powered mobile phones. By using the app, merchants can check and manage inventory and pricing of their products listed on the platform. In the same month, it also announced the launch of a wifi sports cam, Click Pro Oculus, and Alpha Feather, the world’s lightest smartphone, via its Launchpad program.

At present, Snapdeal gets over 50% of its sales through mobile-based transactions. With this move, Snapdeal seems to leave no chance of attracting a whole new set of consumers and building new categories.
