Nearify raises funding from Seedfund Advisors, India Quotient, and Bedrock Ventures
Seedfund Advisors, India Quotient and Bedrock Ventures today announced their seed round of investment in Nearify, an event discovery platform. It is a free mobile application that collates information on a large set of events such as concerts, music festivals, parties, workshops, shows, meet-ups and makes the list available to users.
What does Nearify do ?
A user can plan his/ her evening by just typing in the requirements on the application. The app segregates the information of the events available based on multiple criteria such as distance from the current location; genre of entertainment etc making it easier for a user to identify an event best suited to their needs.
The Team behind It
Nearify was founded in December 2012 by three friends, Mayank Kumar, Saurav Singh and Vivek Srivastava who are IIT Kanpur graduates.
The Founders have extensive work experience in various fields
Mayank Kumar finished his MS and PhD from MIT. He worked with Chevron in Houston as a scientist.
Saurav Singh has worked in several technology functions at various large and small organizations, including an e-commerce company.
Vivek Srivastava worked all over the globe in several technology and consulting roles. He graduated from the MBA program of Sloan School of Management at MIT with a brief stint as an Investment Banker in New York before starting Nearify with his friends.
Said Vivek Srivastava, Co-founder Nearify, “We realized that it is often tedious to search or discover the best events and other socializing options on a smart phone. Typically , one spends a lot of time searching through multiple sites and speaking to friends before figuring out the best events available. Sometimes, one would miss a good event due to not knowing at the right time. Nearify, solves all this. It offers a comprehensive list of events, which are not linked to sale of tickets and also offer it in a user friendly format. It aims to make the discovery part of events simple and fun so users have more time to enjoy the events.”
How does it Work ?
Nearify uses technology to aggregate data related to events from the web, which goes through a sophisticated proprietary data processing engine for quality and relevance. It then collates that events' data into a common format for users to consume.
Future Plans
Currently, Nearify is focused on events discovery. In the near future, it also plans to introduce ticketing facility for paid events. They hope that this will further add to the convenience for their users and offer a ‘one-stop’ solution for identifying and attending an event.
The team is also working on creating an event promotion platform for the organizers where they can preferentially list their events on Nearify for a nominal fee. However, all events will have to be approved by the Nearify team to be listed.
Nearify is determined to ease the process of finding, listing, and organizing events in any location of the world. It currently offers details on events in 50+ major cities in the world. Currently, they are based out of Gurgaon/NCR Region and plan to have offices in USA and other countries in the next year.
The team has resolved to make the events discovery a seamless and fun experience with a few taps on the smart phone.
