Super, the mobile-only 'tinder for jobs' wants to shake up the jobs market in India

Super, the mobile-only 'tinder for jobs' wants to shake up the jobs market in India

Friday February 20, 2015 , 4 min Read

At a Tech Park in Navi Mumbai, there is a growing team of 30 folks at JustUnfollow that is working towards building a global consumer internet company from India. And with more than 10 million downloads, it is well on its way. One of YourStory's TechSparks, JustUnfollow is a Twitter and Instagram friend amangement app that was founded by Nischal Shetty. Funded by its own revenues, the company is amongst some of the best startups to work for and it is now also expanding widening wings.

Nishchal has managed to build a young entrepreneurial culture and this new development is again testimony to that. Meet young Faisal Memon, the founder and CEO of Super Resume Builder which is now only 'Super' and is becoming a 'tinder for jobs'. Incubated within JU, Super is a brainchild of Faisal and is now becoming a separate entity.

Super was first launched as a mobile resume builder which saw good traction with 250k downloads from all around the globe. "We have big plans for this," Faisal told me once when I was at the JU HQ. And this evolution is a step in that direction.

The idea behind this app is pretty simple. Companies & users create profile when they login into the app. Employers can swipe right on a candidate and candidates can swipe right on employers. If both have swiped right for each other, the app will connect them over email. Future plans include adding chat so that one can start chatting with your potential employers before meeting them. The app also let users get a unique look inside offices and apply to the inspiring companies that are now hiring.

Super has half a million registered job seekers, rated over 8500 times with 100K screen views everyday. "We have 100+ companies as part of our closed Beta like JustUnfollow, Webengage, Wingify, Helpshift, Flatchat, Zepo, Haptik, Grabhouse etc," says Faisal.

There are 200 million internet mobile users in India and 40 million more will be added in the next 6 months. Super is the first mobile-only app in India to make job search easy and accessible to all. “I believe this democratizes job industry completely. I come across many people who are unhappy with their jobs, stuck at it either due to lack of information or access. Now access is available with a tap on their phones. Everyone can now have a better career and workplace," says Faisal.

The app is completely free to use for both job seekers and companies. The aim is to help companies connect with the right candidates via an algorithm that looks at the resumes and the keywords in an employers description to make a match. The jobs section of the app is invite only for job seekers. (Here is exclusive code for first 500 YourStory reader to join the private Beta: SUPER-YS, download here). The app is still stabilizing and one might come across a few bugs but the team at Super is pretty resume to sort them out.

The jobs market as a whole is sitting at the cusp of disruption and after the giants Naukri and Monster, there are a bunch of technology startups nibbling away at this problem from different angles. The likes of HackerRank and HackerEarth are taking the approach of developing a community of engaged developers who form a talent pool, there folks like SpringRole working on referrals, and many more like AasaanJobs, IIMJobs, MeraJob, etc. For Super, the proposition is mobile and the biggest advantage is the traction they have already built with Super Resumer Builder. Earlier, most of their profiles included waiters, plumbers, etc. which clearly indicated a very unique penetration into a market which hadn't built a resume earlier. The app still is inclusive but the resume builder is a feature now and for more focus as a business model, they have tied up with a bunch of growing startups in India to help them in hiring.
