Anthropic revises Claude AI pricing in India: Here's why
Anthropic introduces India-specific rupee pricing for Claude AI subscriptions, making Pro, Max and Team plans easier to buy without dollar conversions
Rupee prices have arrived for Claude AI. Anthropic has introduced India-specific pricing for its subscription plans, allowing customers to view and pay for Claude services in rupees instead of relying on dollar conversions.
This means the AI company is now focusing on its second-largest market after the United States and make their subscriptions more transparent and accessible.
Claude AI plans now have local pricing
Anthropic has updated the pricing for its key Claude plans in India. Claude Pro is now priced at Rs 2,000 per month when billed annually, while Claude Max starts at Rs 11,999 per month. The Team plan is available from Rs 2,399 per user per month.
For comparison, the company has also referenced its U.S. pricing, where Claude Pro costs $17 per month, Claude Max starts at $100, and the Team plan is priced at $20 per user. Rather than being a direct currency conversion, the Indian prices are designed to provide predictable local pricing for customers.
Why Anthropic is focusing on India
India has become Anthropic's second-largest market after the United States, accounting for 5.8% of global Claude usage.
As demand for AI tools continues to rise, introducing local pricing removes the uncertainty associated with foreign currency billing and makes subscriptions easier to evaluate. The update also supports Anthropic's efforts to expand its paid user base across developers, professionals, students and enterprises.
Customers can currently subscribe using debit or credit cards as well as Apple and Google billing. However, UPI is not yet available, suggesting the company may introduce additional payment options as its India operations expand.
Easier subscriptions for individuals and businesses
For individual users, paying in rupees makes subscription costs easier to understand and renew without worrying about exchange rates or currency conversion charges. Businesses and organisations also benefit, as per-user pricing in local currency simplifies budgeting, procurement and expense management.
The rollout is still evolving, so users may see further updates to payment methods, subscription options and plan features over time.
A bigger play in India's AI market
The pricing announcement shows Anthropic's growing focus on India, where it has been expanding its leadership team and enterprise partnerships. As competition among AI companies intensifies, offering transparent local pricing is becoming an important way to attract and retain users.
With India already contributing a significant share of Claude's global usage, the introduction of rupee pricing is likely to be followed by more local features and services tailored to the country's rapidly growing AI ecosystem.
