Anthropic unveils Cowork and finance plugins for data-to-deck workflows
Claude gains contextual handoffs across Excel and PowerPoint, plus partner and MCP connectors from LSEG, S&P Global, FactSet, and MSCI.
Anthropic has introduced a finance-focused expansion of Cowork, its agentic workspace for Claude, detailing new domain-specific plugins and deeper data connectivity for institutional users. Announced on 24 February 2026, the update is positioned to help analysts move from raw data to presentation materials with fewer handoffs and clearer governance, according to the company.
What the finance update includes
The release adds a set of Anthropic-built plugins for common finance roles and tasks, alongside partner skills and Model Context Protocol connectors. According to the company, Claude can now carry context between Excel and PowerPoint so that changes in a model flow into written analysis and then into slides without constant copy-paste. Anthropic said this is intended to mirror how deal teams, research desks, and treasury functions already work inside their toolchains.
- Financial analysis, support for market scanning, ratio and variance checks, and model hygiene.
- Investment banking, assistance for comparable analysis, transaction reviews, and pitch material preparation.
- Equity research, parsing of earnings materials, model updates, and first-draft notes.
- Private equity, document review at scale, scenario and sensitivity set up, and summary writeups.
- Wealth management, portfolio health diagnostics, drift and tax considerations, and rebalancing suggestions.
How does Claude move work across Excel and PowerPoint
In research preview for paid plans, Cowork lets Claude reference a spreadsheet, apply user instructions, and then create or refresh slides based on the updated numbers. The company said users can lock ranges, require approvals, and request explanations for each step so teams preserve an audit trail. Analysts said this kind of orchestration can shorten the loop between modelling and client-ready outputs, especially during results season or live deal work.
Data access through MCP and partner plugins
Anthropic is extending Model Context Protocol connectors so enterprises can govern how Claude accesses internal systems and licensed data. New connectors, including FactSet and MSCI, are meant to expose fundamentals, index compositions, risk factors, and methodology details subject to customer entitlements.
Partner plugins from S&P Global and the London Stock Exchange Group are aimed at bringing tear sheets, transaction summaries, live pricing, and analytics into Cowork, according to the respective providers.
The company stated that MCP requires explicit admin permissions for every data source or tool.
Requests and responses can be logged, making it easier for compliance, risk, and IT teams to see what an assistant touched, which query was run, and how the answer was assembled. Industry observers said this emphasis on control will be crucial for adoption in regulated environments.
Enterprise controls and rollout
Anthropic is also expanding deployment features that large organisations expect. Admins can create private plugin marketplaces, set per-user or group access, and package connectors within plugins so distribution follows internal policy. The connector directory has been reorganised to improve discovery. The company added telemetry through open standards so leaders can track usage patterns, costs, and tool activity across desks.
Why this matters for India Inc
For Indian banks, brokerages, and fintechs, the approach could lower the friction of routine work such as results analysis, pitchbook refreshes, and regulatory reporting. By keeping data access behind entitlements and keeping an audit log, teams can align assistant use with local compliance requirements. Analysts said the ability to move from spreadsheet to deck can save hours per week for junior staff, freeing them to focus on origination and client conversations.
Availability and pricing context
According to the company, the five Anthropic-built finance plugins and partner skills are available for enterprise customers to install and adapt to house style. The Excel and PowerPoint handoffs are in research preview on Mac and Windows for paid plans. Organisations can authorise connectors such as FactSet and MSCI from admin settings, then roll them out via private marketplaces so the right users see the right skills.
Leadership perspective
Anthropic’s Chief Executive Officer, Dario Amodei, and Co-founder and President, Daniela Amodei, have repeatedly framed Cowork as a practical path to bring AI into daily workflows without losing oversight. The finance-focused plugins reflect that stance, prioritising governed access, standardised prompts, and clear review steps over one-off automation.
As Indian capital markets deepen and technology budgets face sharper scrutiny, tools that compress the path from analysis to output while preserving controls are likely to draw interest. If the promised handoffs and governance hold up in production, finance teams could find a steadier bridge between data, decisions, and delivery.
