Apple is developing an AI search tool for Siri, which may use Google’s Gemini model for advanced responses.
Apple is working on an artificial intelligence–powered search feature for Siri that may rely on Google’s Gemini model, according to reports. The development signals a significant shift in Apple’s approach to AI integration and could mark one of the company’s most notable collaborations with Google since its existing search partnership on Safari.
Bloomberg first reported that Apple is developing the feature under the internal codename World Knowledge Answers. The tool is designed to enhance Siri’s ability to deliver contextual and multimedia results, including text, images, and video, rather than just basic search links.
Structure of the system
The upgraded Siri will reportedly function through three interconnected AI systems. The first, a planner, will interpret and contextualise user prompts. The second, a search engine, will retrieve information from the web or from relevant personal sources. The third, a summariser, will compile the data into concise, easy-to-understand responses.
This three-part system is aimed at improving Siri’s accuracy and usability at a time when other voice assistants and chatbots have advanced significantly.
Partnerships and testing
While Google’s Gemini is seen as the leading option for powering the feature, Apple is also said to be testing other models, including Anthropic’s Claude. The company continues to build its own in-house artificial intelligence technologies, which may also support Siri in planning and reasoning tasks.
If the partnership with Google moves forward, Apple would deploy a customised version of Gemini on its own servers, keeping data handling under its control.
Launch timeline
The reports suggest that Apple could launch the new AI-powered Siri as early as March 2026. The feature is expected to be bundled with iOS 26.4, shortly after the release of the iPhone 17.
Apple has not issued an official statement on the project. The final timeline and implementation details may be adjusted as the company continues to test the system.
