Apple's revamped AI Siri to be powered by Google Gemini: Report
Bloomberg reported that Apple’s overhauled Siri will arrive around March 2026 and will run on a custom Google Gemini model via Apple’s Private Cloud Compute, following Apple’s earlier delay to the assistant’s personalised features.
Apple has targeted March 2026 to roll out a revamped, AI‑driven Siri, and the assistant is slated to run on a custom version of Google’s Gemini model operating on Apple’s own Private Cloud Compute, according to Bloomberg.
Apple is reportedly preparing a substantially upgraded Siri for release around March next year, aligning with the company’s typical “.4” platform updates.
The report added that the assistant will “lean” on Google’s Gemini and introduce an AI‑powered web search capability, with Gemini running in the background rather than surfacing Google services in the Siri interface.
Apple previously confirmed that major Siri improvements have been delayed to 2026, after the company decided it needed more time to meet reliability and quality goals for personalised, on‑device assistance.
Coverage following WWDC 2025 and subsequent briefings pointed to a spring window, with multiple reports converging on an iOS 26.4 timeframe in March or April 2026.
According to the report, Apple has been paying Google to develop a Gemini‑based model tailored to run on Apple’s Private Cloud Compute to power the new Siri.
The model is expected to provide back‑end capabilities while Siri retains Apple’s UI and privacy posture.
Why it matters
The overhauled Siri is positioned as a core part of Apple’s wider Apple Intelligence effort, bringing personal context and on‑device awareness to everyday tasks.
The shift to a cloud‑backed LLM running on Apple‑controlled infrastructure could be central to enabling more capable natural‑language behaviours while maintaining Apple’s privacy approach.
Reports also suggest that Apple is preparing new home devices to showcase the assistant alongside the spring software release window.
