Google AI Mode adds Hindi as Search Live heads for debut in India
Google has expanded AI Mode with Hindi and more languages and has said Search Live — its real-time, voice-led and camera-aware experience — is coming to India after a US debut, following AI Mode’s July rollout to all users in the country.
Google has deepened its India-first push in search by expanding AI Mode with new language options and confirming that Search Live — its real-time, voice-led and camera-aware experience — has been set to debut in India after an initial US release.
The moves have followed a nationwide rollout of AI Mode to Indian users in July.
AI Mode, Google’s conversational search experience powered by Gemini 2.5, has added support for Hindi alongside Indonesian, Japanese, Korean and Brazilian Portuguese, extending access beyond its initial English-only release. Google has said Hindi is rolling out globally, including in India.
The update has built on AI Mode’s multimodal design, allowing questions by text, voice or image.
Google has framed the feature for “longer, more complex and nuanced” queries, with links to explore the open web.
What is Search Live, and how does it work?
Search Live has enabled a free-flowing, back-and-forth conversation with Google Search using voice, and can interpret a live camera feed to answer questions about what the phone sees.
It has launched in the US within AI Mode and is headed to India next — the first expansion market outside the US — according to Google.
Google introduced AI Mode in India via Search Labs on 24 June 2025, then made it available to all users across Search and the Google app in early July — initially in English.
Since then, Google has announced Hindi support for AI Mode and has confirmed that Search Live is coming to India soon. The company has said Search Live will be accessible from the Google app and through Lens, offering voice and video input.
What changes for users
A dedicated “AI Mode” entry point has appeared in Search and the Google app in India; users can type, speak or use Lens to ask questions and get linked, synthesised responses.
When Search Live has arrived, users in India have been able to hold natural voice conversations with Search and, where relevant, point the camera for real-time visual context.
In early usage, Google has said AI Mode often handles multi‑part tasks that previously required several searches, and falls back to traditional results when confidence is low.
India has become a priority testbed for Google’s AI-led search overhaul, with executives describing near-simultaneous access to new capabilities alongside the US.
Recent updates — including visual and shopping enhancements in AI Mode — have reflected the focus on multimodal search that reflects how people in India already use voice and images.
