IIM Jammu launches management development programme on generative AI
The new management programme introduces Indian business leaders to generative AI concepts, strategies, and responsible use cases.
The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu has launched a new Management Development Programme (MDP) titled “Fundamentals of Generative AI for Leaders,” aimed at helping industry executives understand and leverage emerging AI technologies. The programme, inaugurated on 18 June at the Canal Road Campus, is part of IIM Jammu’s broader push to integrate technology into leadership training.
Building AI fluency among non-technical leaders
The course is designed specifically for mid-to-senior level professionals from sectors including finance, marketing, logistics, and government. While technical knowledge is not a prerequisite, the programme introduces participants to the core concepts behind generative AI, such as how large language models (LLMs) like ChatGPT and Gemini function, and their business applications.
Interactive sessions, use-case demonstrations, and group exercises are being used to make the programme accessible and practical. Participants are expected to leave with a clear understanding of how to align generative AI tools with business goals.
Focus on ethical and strategic deployment
Prof Jabir Ali, Dean of Academics at IIM Jammu, in a media report emphasised that the programme doesn’t just focus on technology—it also explores the ethical, legal, and policy considerations surrounding AI adoption. “Leaders need to understand not only how to use AI but how to deploy it responsibly,” he said in the report.
The course explores critical areas such as data privacy, intellectual property, regulatory compliance, and the societal impacts of AI.
Faculty and industry collaborations
The MDP is led by IIM Jammu faculty in collaboration with industry experts and AI practitioners. Guest speakers include data scientists from Indian tech firms and government think tanks, ensuring that participants gain both theoretical and real-world insights.
Director of IIM Jammu, Prof B.S. Sahay was quoted saying, “We want our leaders to not just adapt to change but to drive it. Generative AI is a disruptive force, and those who understand it will shape the future of their organisations.”
Growing demand for AI education
The launch of this programme comes at a time when companies across India are increasingly integrating generative AI into workflows—from automating content creation to enhancing customer service and optimising operations. Programmes like this are helping bridge the gap between technological capabilities and strategic business use.
IIM Jammu plans to expand its AI-focused educational offerings in the coming months, including certificate programmes and short-term bootcamps. The MDP on generative AI is likely to become a recurring fixture in the institute’s calendar, given the level of interest.
