IndiGo Ventures to invest in Sarvam to boost AI use in aviation
Sarvam is the country's full-stack sovereign AI company and IndiGo Ventures will pump in the money as part of a Series B funding round.
IndiGo Ventures, the venture capital arm of the country's largest airline IndiGo, on Friday said it will invest in AI company Sarvam.
However, financial details were not disclosed.
“The investment builds on the existing relationship between IndiGo and Sarvam, who have been working together to enhance customer experience, empower employees and streamline complex operational workflows across the airline through Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies.
“The investment creates a long-term platform for accelerating AI-led innovation and operational excellence at IndiGo,” a statement said.
Sarvam is the country's full-stack sovereign AI company and IndiGo Ventures will pump in the money as part of a Series B funding round.
As per the statement, IndiGo and Sarvam will continue to develop and evaluate applications across customer experience, employee productivity and airline operations, with the ability to expand successful use cases across IndiGo's network.
IndiGo's Chief Digital and Information Officer Neetan Chopra said the partnership with Sarvam gives it access to cutting-edge AI capabilities, built in India, and tailored to the needs of the market.
"IndiGo brings the domain depth and scale needed to identify where AI can create real value. Together, we can develop systems that are useful in production and build a stronger template for enterprise AI in India," Sarvam Co-Founder Pratyush Kumar said.
Founded in 2023 by Vivek Raghavan and Pratyush Kumar, Sarvam AI has established itself as a prominent player in India's AI race, with a sharp focus on models and applications tailored for Indian languages, voice integration and localised use cases. Both founders were previously associated with AI4Bharat at IIT Madras, while Raghavan has also worked on Aadhaar digital identity infrastructure.
The Bengaluru-based startup shot into prominence within months of its founding when it raised $41 million in Series A funding from marquee investors including Lightspeed, Peak XV Partners and Khosla Ventures - billed at the time as the largest capital raise at that stage by an Indian AI startup.
Sarvam's core strategy centres around building a 'full-stack' sovereign AI ecosystem for India - not merely developing applications on top of foreign foundation models. Its models span language, speech, vision and documents, all trained in India.
The homegrown AI firm builds across the AI stack: training and inference infrastructure, frontier model research, and a go-to-market motion spanning enterprises, developers and government.
Sarvam's growth trajectory gained a strategic boost in April 2025 when the government selected the company under the IndiaAI Mission to build an indigenous sovereign large language model from the ground up, backed by access to dedicated computer infrastructure.
The company has since expanded both its technology play and financial firepower, positioning itself at the centre of India's push for greater strategic autonomy in AI.
In the last few months, it has released foundational models, all trained from scratch in India.
In June, the full-stack sovereign AI player announced that it has raised $234 million in the first close of its $300 million Series B, valuing the company at $1.5 billion.
HCLTech and Bessemer Venture Partners invested in that round, with continued support from existing investors Khosla Ventures and Peak XV Partners. At that time, Sarvam said its conversational platform handles over 2 million interactions a day.
