iPhone Duo ad faces Photoshop backlash after Apple’s foldable reveal
Apple’s iPhone Duo ad has sparked a social media debate over a promotional hand image. Users suspect it was altered; here's all that you need to know!
A viral image is stealing some attention from Apple’s biggest iPhone redesign in years. Apple’s iPhone Duo ad is facing a Photoshop backlash after social media users questioned whether the company digitally altered a promotional image to make its first foldable iPhone look easier to hold in one hand.
The debate began soon after the iPhone Duo was unveiled, turning what should have been a routine product image into an unexpected internet investigation.
It started with a very long hand
The image shows the iPhone Duo opened and being held in one hand. An X user later shared a comparison that digitally removed the phone from the picture, leaving the hand behind. That was enough to get people looking closely.
In the edited comparison, the fingers appeared unusually long, leading some users to speculate that Apple may have altered the hand to make the large foldable look more comfortable to hold. Memes followed, along with questions about whether the image had been staged, edited or simply caught at an unusual angle.
There is one important catch, though. There is currently no concrete evidence that Apple deliberately elongated the fingers in the promotional image.
Cameras can make things look weird
Product photography is rarely as simple as pointing a camera and clicking. Lighting, lens choices, angles, hand positioning and post-processing can all affect how a product looks. That matters even more with a foldable phone.
The iPhone Duo opens into a much larger display, so Apple needs to show both its size and how it feels in the hand. Depending on the camera angle, fingers and palms can look larger or longer than they would in person.
Once an image is cropped, isolated and compared online, those effects can become even more noticeable.
So, what looks suspicious in a social media comparison does not necessarily prove that an image was manipulated.
Apple has not joined the debate
Apple has not commented on the specific Photoshop allegations. The company is positioning the iPhone Duo as a premium foldable that combines a larger display with a pocketable design. It starts at $1,999, with pre-orders beginning October 16 and availability from October 23.
As Apple’s first foldable iPhone, the device was always going to attract plenty of attention. Apparently, that attention now includes forensic analysis of its advertising photography.
For now, it’s internet detective work
The backlash is currently more about perception than proven image manipulation. Still, it shows how closely people examine product campaigns, particularly when a new device makes a bold claim about design or usability.
A slightly unusual-looking hand can quickly become a bigger story once social media gets involved. The iPhone Duo itself will eventually get its proper test when customers and reviewers get their hands on it.
Until then, the internet has apparently decided that the real question is not just how big the foldable screen is, but how long Apple’s fingers are.
