With Mappl, motorists can now access live traffic signal timers across 125 Bengaluru junctions
MapmyIndia’s Mappls app displays red‑amber‑green countdowns up to 500 metres ahead at over 125 Bengaluru signals, in partnership with city traffic police and Arcadis; iOS has rolled it out first, with Android to follow.
MapmyIndia’s flagship Mappls app has become the first navigation app in India to display live traffic signal countdowns to drivers in Bengaluru, integrating more than 125 smart signals across the city and showing the next light’s status up to 500 metres ahead.
The feature went live on iOS (version 10.4.1) and was announced on 25 September 2025, with Android availability to follow.
The Mappls app presents real-time red, amber and green countdowns for upcoming junctions during turn‑by‑turn navigation. Timers appeared as drivers approached a signal typically within 500 metres and supported both adaptive (VAC) and manually controlled intersections already used by Bengaluru’s traffic authorities.
Built with city partners
MapmyIndia rolled out the capability in collaboration with the Bengaluru Traffic Police and global design and engineering firm Arcadis. More than 125 “smart” signals were integrated at launch in Bengaluru, with the company stating that additional cities would be added subsequently.
In the same release, Mappls introduced toll‑related features including visibility into potential savings from the National Highways Authority of India’s Annual Toll Pass and a tracker for distance travelled on toll roads. Purchasing of the annual pass will continue via NHAI’s RajmargYatra app, according to IHMCL.
Why Bengaluru?
Bengaluru had been modernising its junctions with adaptive, AI‑assisted control since 2024, a programme that the city’s traffic police said shortened travel times at upgraded junctions.
Making live countdowns visible inside a navigation app has aligned with that shift by giving motorists clearer expectations before they reached signals.
The live signal timers were listed in the iOS App Store’s “What’s New” notes for Mappls, indicating coverage at 125 Bengaluru signals and support for both adaptive and manual modes.
