WhatsApp expands Business AI as Mark Zuckerberg foresees AI agents becoming essential
Speaking during WhatsApp’s global Conversations conference in Miami, Mark Zuckerberg highlighted that as more businesses shift to messaging, companies will need to respond in a way that is both personal and efficient. That’s where AI plays a crucial role.
Mark Zuckerberg, Co-founder and CEO of Meta, expects that just as every business today has an email address, a social media presence, and a website, in the next few years, they will also have an AI business agent.
“You are going to be able to leverage all of the content that already exists on your Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp profiles to easily create these agents, making them a true extension of your team,” Zuckerberg noted during WhatsApp’s global Conversations conference in Miami, US.
AI agents are smart computer programmes that can make decisions and do tasks on their own. They are becoming popular because they help save time, work faster, and solve problems without needing constant human input.
The Meta chief highlighted that as more businesses shift to messaging, companies will need to respond in a way that is both personal and efficient. That’s where AI plays a crucial role.
“We are building Business AIs that will massively scale what small businesses are able to do in terms of sales and customer support. And this is going to be a really big deal,” he added.
Business AIs bring the power of AI to businesses, helping brands engage customers more easily and build stronger relationships.
WhatsApp Business will expand Business AIs to more businesses in Mexico and the Philippines before rolling out globally, according to Zuckerberg.
“We are also building a way to integrate these Business AIs directly into your ecommerce website, so you can add the same technology that’s powering agents and WhatsApp directly to your website to make product recommendations or facilitate sales,” the Meta chief noted.
He added that the company will be testing these with some US businesses in the coming weeks.

WhatsApp is also streamlining how businesses can create and manage their marketing strategy across WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram—all through Ads Manager.
“You will go through one setup flow, develop creative, upload your subscriber list, select your budget, and simply choose marketing messages as one of the placements. We will use AI to deliver those messages to customers who are most likely to be interested,” Zuckerberg explained.
Businesses interested in creating ads in Status can do so from Ads Manager, once available.
In the coming weeks, larger businesses using WhatsApp Business will be able to receive live calls from customers or directly call them when requested. Soon, voice messages for additional support and video calls will also be available.
From neighbourhood stores to large brands, millions of businesses rely on WhatsApp Business daily. To keep pace, Meta continually brings new tools and features like away messages, quick replies, labels, in-app ad creation, and a catalogue to help drive sales and reach new customers.
“As we continue to build private and useful experiences for the three billion people who use the app globally, we are also building new ways for your businesses to reach customers, sell goods, and run your service on WhatsApp,” Zuckerberg noted.
