OpenAI, Snowflake announce $200M AI partnership
Snowflake-OpenAI alliance will integrate advanced models natively, enabling global enterprises to build AI agents and democratise insights through data-driven workflows.
ChatGPT maker OpenAI and cloud-based data platform Snowflake on Monday announced a $200 million multi-year partnership to bridge the gap between artificial intelligence (AI) and the proprietary data held by global organisations.
By integrating OpenAI models natively into the Snowflake platform, the collaboration seeks to provide a secure environment where businesses can build and deploy high-impact AI agents.
A primary component of this alliance is the availability of OpenAI models within Snowflake Cortex AI and Snowflake Intelligence. This integration allows over 12,000 customers to access intelligence directly where their data resides.
For instance, models such as GPT-5.2 are utilised to empower employees across various departments to query and act upon structured or unstructured data using natural language. This approach democratises data insights by removing the need for complex coding and allowing non-technical users to draw meaning from their information.
The partnership also aims to address the critical need for governance in the deployment of large language models (LLMs). Through the Snowflake Horizon Catalog, businesses can maintain strict security and compliance standards while harnessing advanced reasoning capabilities.
For companies like Canva and WHOOP, these features are essential for scaling visual AI tools and making precise, data-driven decisions at speed. These organisations use the combined power of Snowflake and OpenAI to create custom agents that can reason over governed data and take action across various applications.
Furthermore, teams from both companies are collaborating to develop features that utilise the OpenAI Apps SDK and AgentKit to support enterprise workflows. This technical synergy extends to multimodal capabilities where users can use standard SQL to explore text, images, and audio alongside traditional rows and columns.
OpenAI utilises the Snowflake platform for its own internal experiment tracking and analytics. Meanwhile, Snowflake has adopted ChatGPT Enterprise to streamline internal workflows and accelerate the productivity of its own workforce.
Back in December, Snowflake and Anthropic had announced a significant expansion of their strategic partnership with a multi-year, $200 million agreement to bring Anthropic’s Claude models to Snowflake’s AI Data Cloud.
Last month, OpenAI announced a multi-year partnership with AI chipmaker Cerebras to enhance its computing infrastructure.
