Perplexity launches AI email assistant for Gmail and Outlook
Perplexity has launched an AI Email Assistant for Gmail and Outlook, offering drafting, scheduling, and inbox triage to Max subscribers.
Perplexity has announced the launch of its AI Email Assistant on September 22, 2025.
The feature integrates directly with Gmail and Microsoft Outlook, promising to streamline how users draft messages, manage scheduling, and organise their inboxes.
The tool will be available exclusively to Perplexity Max subscribers, the company’s top-tier plan that unlocks advanced AI capabilities.
Drafting, scheduling, and inbox triage
As stated by Perplexity, the assistant has been designed to reduce everyday email workload. It can draft replies in a user’s preferred style, allowing professionals to respond quickly while maintaining consistency of tone. It also condenses long email threads into concise summaries, helping users catch up on conversations without scrolling through dozens of messages.
Beyond drafting, the assistant can take over scheduling. The company explained that users may simply cc the agent into an ongoing thread, after which the assistant will check calendars, propose mutually convenient times, and automatically send calendar invitations. This end-to-end scheduling feature is aimed at cutting down the back-and-forth that often comes with arranging meetings.
In addition, the assistant supports inbox triage by prioritising important messages and filtering less urgent ones. Perplexity described this capability as a way to help professionals deal with high volumes of correspondence more efficiently, reducing the need to manually sort through every incoming message.
How the service works
Perplexity noted that the assistant is accessible only through the Max plan, which bundles together the company’s advanced agent functions. Users must link their Gmail or Outlook accounts to the platform and provide the necessary authorisations for access. The company has emphasised that integration complies with Google and Microsoft’s existing security protocols, ensuring account data is handled within provider frameworks.
According to the announcement, the service is designed to be intuitive. Once authorised, it can begin categorising emails, suggesting draft responses, and stepping in to handle scheduling tasks without requiring complex setup.
Conditions and limitations
While introducing the new feature, Perplexity also outlined certain conditions and constraints:
- The AI Email Assistant is currently restricted to Perplexity Max users only.
- Users must grant authorisation for the assistant to connect with Gmail or Outlook accounts.
- The tool’s performance depends on the availability and stability of provider APIs and account services.
