Proofpoint opens Hyderabad AI centre, plans to hire 200 engineers
Proofpoint is setting up an AI Security Engineering Centre of Excellence in Hyderabad and plans to hire more than 200 engineers over the next 12 to 24 months.
Hyderabad is becoming a bigger hub for AI security. Cybersecurity company Proofpoint has announced a new AI Security Engineering Centre of Excellence in Hyderabad and plans to hire more than 200 engineers over the next 12 to 24 months.
The centre will focus on next-generation AI security technologies and support the company's global AI security roadmap. This expansion comes alongside a new Delhi office and greater investment in sales, customer success, technical support and partnerships in India.
Why Proofpoint is expanding in Hyderabad
Proofpoint says its India business has tripled over the past 12 months, while new customer acquisition has grown at a double-digit rate. The number of seats protected by the company has also increased by more than 600% over the past 18 months.
The Hyderabad centre will strengthen Proofpoint's research and development operations in India. Its work will include AI governance, runtime protection and security for AI applications, copilots and autonomous agents, including technology from its acquisition of Acuvity.
The company already has more than 550 extended team members at its Pune Centre of Excellence, supporting global engineering, product development, customer support and technical services. It has also operated a local data centre for Indian customers since the third quarter of 2025 to address data sovereignty and compliance requirements.
AI adoption is creating a new security challenge
Proofpoint's expansion comes as organisations face new risks from widespread AI adoption. Its 2026 AI and Human Risk Landscape report found that 87% of organisations globally have deployed AI, while 52% are not fully confident they can detect a compromised AI system.
Data protection is another major concern in India. Proofpoint's latest Voice of the CISO research found that 99% of Indian CISOs reported material loss of sensitive data, compared with 66% globally. The company is positioning its unified data security approach around the growing requirements of India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act.
Its platform combines Data security posture management, enterprise and adaptive email data loss prevention, etc. The aim is to help organisations identify sensitive data, prevent its loss and detect risky behaviour involving employees and AI systems.
With the Hyderabad centre, Delhi office and existing Pune operations, Proofpoint is expanding both its engineering and customer-facing presence in India.
