How Reddit made $500 million with AI-powered ad tools
In Q2 2025, Reddit’s total revenue climbed to $500 million, surpassing analyst expectations of approximately $426 million.
Reddit reported a significant surge in its second-quarter 2025 financial results, with total revenue reaching $500 million—a 78% year-over-year increase.
The growth was primarily driven by expanding adoption of its AI-powered advertising tools and increased user engagement.
Exceptional revenue growth and ad momentum
In Q2 2025, Reddit’s total revenue climbed to $500 million, surpassing analyst expectations of approximately $426 million.
Advertising revenue contributed $465 million, accounting for 93% of the total and representing an 84% year-on-year growth. The company also posted a net income of $89 million, or $0.45 per share, compared to a $0.06 per-share loss in the same quarter last year.
The revenue boost is attributed to the platform’s enhanced advertising formats, including conversation placement ads and AI-driven targeting tools such as Reddit Insights and Conversation Summary Add-ons.
These innovations help brands embed content within relevant subreddit discussions and identify trending topics more effectively.
User growth and product expansion
Reddit’s daily active unique users reached 110.4 million in Q2, up 21% from the same period in 2024. The growth was further supported by global expansion initiatives, including the rollout of machine translation support across 23 languages.
Average revenue per user (ARPU) grew 47% to $4.53, reflecting stronger monetisation through ad tools.
Additionally, Reddit’s internal search queries now exceed 70 million per week. The company plans to integrate its Reddit Answers feature—used by over 6 million users weekly—into its native search experience, positioning Reddit as a standalone destination for topic-based discovery.
Strong Q3 outlook and investor confidence
For Q3 2025, Reddit projects revenue between $535 million and $545 million, far exceeding the market forecast of approximately $473 million. Adjusted EBITDA is expected to fall within the range of $185 million to $195 million, above prior analyst estimates of around $160 million.
Following the earnings announcement, Reddit shares surged by 13% to 18% in after-hours trading, indicating investor confidence in the company’s strategic direction and AI-led advertising growth.
AI partnerships and strategic positioning
Reddit continues to deepen its long-term AI partnerships with companies such as Google and OpenAI. Revenue from its data licensing deals—classified as “other revenue”—totalled $35 million for the quarter, up 24% from the previous year.
CEO Steve Huffman emphasised that Reddit’s human-first content and active moderation make its data uniquely valuable for advertisers and AI developers.
