Samsung to train 20,000 young Indians in AI
Samsung is expanding its Innovation Campus programme across 10 Indian states, targeting 20,000 students with training in AI, IoT, big data and coding.
Samsung is expanding its Samsung Innovation Campus programme in India, with a target to train 20,000 students in technologies including artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, big data, and coding and programming.
The expansion, announced on 8 September 2025, increases the programme's reach from four states in 2024 to 10 states. Samsung said the 2025 target is nearly six times the 3,500 students covered the previous year.
Since the programme began in India in 2022, it had trained 6,500 students by the time of the announcement.
What students will learn
The programme focuses on technology skills that are increasingly relevant across industries. Artificial intelligence, or AI, refers to computer systems that can learn from data, identify patterns and perform tasks that typically require human judgement.
The Internet of Things, or IoT, involves connected devices that collect and exchange data. Big data covers the technologies and methods used to process and analyse large volumes of information. Students will also receive training in coding and programming, which provide the foundation for developing software, applications and automated systems.
The programme includes soft-skills training to support workplace readiness. Samsung also said eligible students will receive placement assistance in relevant industries.
Training expands across 10 states
Samsung is working with the Electronics Sector Skills Council of India and the Telecom Sector Skill Council to deliver the programme through accredited centres and training partners.
The Electronics Sector Skills Council of India will oversee training for 10,000 students across Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and West Bengal. Another 10,000 students will be trained across Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and Maharashtra through the Telecom Sector Skill Council.
Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu will receive particular attention, with 5,000 students targeted in each state.
Taking AI learning beyond major cities
A key focus of the expansion is access. Samsung says the programme is intended to reach students in urban and semi-urban areas, including communities that may have fewer opportunities to access specialised technology education.
That approach is important as AI and digital technologies spread across sectors beyond traditional technology companies. Students entering manufacturing, finance, healthcare, retail, telecommunications and other industries are increasingly likely to encounter AI-powered tools and data-driven systems.
Why the programme matters
India's digital economy is creating demand for workers who understand technologies such as AI, connected devices and data analytics. However, access to specialised training remains uneven. Programmes such as Samsung Innovation Campus can give students practical exposure before they enter the workforce.
The combination of technical education, soft skills and placement support also attempts to connect classroom learning with employer requirements. This initiative aligns with broader government efforts under Skill India and Digital India to strengthen employability and expand digital participation.
What comes next
The expansion reflects a wider change in how technology companies are approaching workforce development. As AI becomes part of everyday business operations, basic digital literacy may no longer be enough for many roles.
Samsung's programme does not guarantee employment, but training at this scale can help more students build foundational skills before entering the job market.
For India, the bigger challenge will be ensuring that access to AI education keeps pace with the technology itself. As companies adopt AI across industries, programmes that combine technical learning with practical workplace preparation could become increasingly important.
