xAI upgrades Grok Voice with faster Think Fast 2 mode
xAI has launched Grok Voice Think Fast 2, bringing faster responses, improved transcription and smoother real-time AI conversations.
Voice AI is becoming faster and more natural.
SpaceXAI(xAI) has introduced Grok Voice Think Fast 2, its latest speech-to-speech AI model designed for real-time voice applications. The new model promises quicker responses, better transcription accuracy and smoother conversations while maintaining low latency.
According to xAI, Think Fast 2 is built to reason while speaking, helping AI assistants respond naturally without making conversations feel delayed.
Faster responses for live conversations
One of the biggest improvements is response speed. xAI says Think Fast 2 reduces the time taken to generate its first audio response to around 0.70 seconds, compared with 1.25 seconds for the previous Think Fast model.
The company also says the model uses fewer reasoning tokens, allowing connected tools and workflows to begin processing earlier during a conversation. It has also been trained to speak in shorter sentences with fewer filler words, making interactions feel more natural and reducing awkward pauses.
Better transcription across multiple languages
Think Fast 2 also brings significant improvements in speech recognition. According to xAI's internal tests, the model delivered 1.4 times higher transcription accuracy than Think Fast 1 across thousands of short phrases in 24 languages.
The company also claims the model performs between 1.5 and 2 times better than dedicated transcription systems, particularly in noisy environments such as call centres, retail stores and busy workplaces.
These improvements could make voice AI more reliable in real-world situations where background noise often affects accuracy.

Rollout begins in August
xAI plans to update its default Voice API model on August 5, 2026. The current "grok-voice-latest" alias will automatically switch to "grok-voice-think-fast-2.0". Developers who prefer the earlier version will still be able to use it by selecting the Think Fast 1.0 model directly.
The company has priced Think Fast 2 at $0.08 per minute for speech-to-speech interactions, along with $0.004 for each text input. xAI also says the platform supports more than 20 languages with automatic language detection and native-quality accents.
What this means for businesses
As businesses increasingly adopt AI-powered voice assistants, speed and accuracy are becoming key factors in user experience. Faster responses can make conversations feel more natural, while improved transcription helps reduce misunderstandings and repeated questions.
This can be particularly valuable for customer support, sales teams and businesses using AI agents to handle phone calls. With Think Fast 2, xAI is aiming to make voice AI feel less like an experimental technology and more like a dependable assistant capable of handling real-time conversations with greater confidence.
