For those of you not fluent in Hindi (haha, i’m certainly not!), the title of this post refers to the poem by Ghalib, A Thousand Desires Like These (also the title of an excellent film on youth revolution in India).
A recent announcement from the UN touts the 1000th clean energy project to be approved through the Clean Development Mechanism, created by the Kyoto Protocol, will be in Andhra Pradesh. This is both a laudable milestone, considering the UN Mechanism began operations just two and half years ago, and has already spread projects to 49 countries. But when we start considering the implications of truly moving into a postcarbon world, this is just a drop in the bucket.
Besides, the article doesn’t clearly state what the clean energy project is, except for the fact that it will reduce CO2 emissions by more than 34,000 tons annually. Anyone have any more info on this?
