Alan Mamedi and Nami Zarringhalam are the founders of True Software. With 6 employees and over 900 000 users this Swedish mobile startup is creating services that aim to change the information availability of the world, just like the founders decided they would do during their university studies.

TrueCaller is the first Caller ID and number lookup service that works worldwide. By connecting all the white and yellow pages of the world into one app and add a crowd sourced database to extend it TrueCaller already has over 900 000 users and is growing rapidly. Nami answer a few questions about this application.Tell us how TrueCaller works.

TrueCaller’s mission is to give the user as much information as possible about the people he/she is communicating with. This is done by giving the user information about the people who they don’t know, such as a unknown number calling them, or by giving the user information about his/her friends. By combining the following two functionalities TrueCaller aims to reach it’s mission:

By making a reverse number lookup to the TrueCaller server whenever the user receives a call from an unknown number, TrueCaller is able to present the user with Name/Address and in some cases even a picture of the caller. In addition if the caller is a notorious spam caller such as a sales company, TrueCaller will inform the user so that the user can decide whether they want to answer the phone or not.

When the user receives a call from a friend or colleague as detected on Facebook or Linkedin, the user will see that persons latest status update and profile picture.

Dont phone connections come with a caller identification service? That is only partially true, because you will know who is calling you if you have saved that persons number in your phonebook, however if you don’t have that phonenumber saved in your phonebook you will never know who is calling you until you answer the phone. With the help of TrueCaller you will actually have that information even before you answer the phone!

Features:

Social Caller ID : TrueCaller shows you your Facebook and LinkedIn friends latest status message and profile picture when they call you (or you call them)

Update your phonebook : Update Phonebook updates your phonebook with missing information such as street, city, zipcode and country where data can be found. With one single click TrueCaller will go thru all your contacts where the address information is missing and add it. Nothing will ever be deleted, only added.

Tweet Caller : Connect your Twitter-account to TrueCaller to automatically update your Twitter when you are on the phone to keep your friends updated

SMS-Popup : TrueCaller displays a preview of the incoming text message. If the sender´s number is not stored in your phonebook, TrueCaller will try to detect it and display the name of the sender.

Name and number search : Search among 200 million numbers in more than 25 countries around the world. With TrueCaller you can easily make a name or number search by simply entering the phone number and pressing search.

Pricing

TrueCaller is free to download and to use in most of the world including Asia and India in particular. The app costs $3 as a onetime fee in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and the US.
