500 Startups company Seat14A opens up for India: Will dish out a trendy menswear ensemble each week
Coming from the house of Subtle Disruption, Seat14a began as a travel inspired seasonal ensemble of handmade clothing and accessories for men. Then it pivoted to become a kickstarter for fashion and went on the become a part of the latest batch of 500 Startups.
The company has been founded by Jas Banwait (CEO, Canada ), Adi Sahay (New Delhi), Tarun Arora (New Delhi) and Nav Chatterji (USA). They initially tried out he model in US and Europe and have now opened up in India.
The collection is kept open for a maximum of two weeks post which, the products are shipped out to all those who placed an order. The current ensemble consists of a classy chambray shirt, linen shorts and a tablet cover to go with it.The ensemble is priced at INR 3900 and 75% of the stock is booked since its launch on Friday. Trying out a different model with eCommerce, companies like Seat14a are a pleasant shift from the eCommerce companies falling for the price wars. We've seen a host of eCommerce companies shutting down off late but other models like the subscription one (Vellvette and Bakebox) might work out.
Pretty much a deja vu of what the US faced when it was going through the eCommerce upheaval, it's be interesting to see how things pan out in India (eCommerce is a bear!). Having 500Startups to guide them Seat14a has an interesting proposition catering to a market that can pay.
