Visual Translator App Waygo is Echelon 2013's Most Promising Startup

Tuesday June 04, 2013 , 1 min Read

Taiwan based startup Waygo has been chosen as the 'Most Promising Startup' at Echelon 2013. Waygo is an optical character reader translation (OCR) app. Waygo lets users hover their smartphone camera over Chinese characters and read the translation even without being connected to the internet. The startup currently monetizes through in-app purchases. Waygo was the winner of Echelon Taiwan satellite. Waygo (“wài guó”) in Chinese means foreign country.

Waygo was part of the 500 Startups accelerator batch that graduated in February 2013.

According to their website the idea for Waygo came about two years ago as Ryan Rogowski, CEO and cofounder was working in China building mobile games.
