Bridging gap between interns and organisation: HelloIntern’s second inning under new promoters

Bridging gap between interns and organisation: HelloIntern’s second inning under new promoters

Getting right internship opportunities on your own is very difficult, especially when you don’t have enough connections in desired (preferred) verticals (such as finance, technology etc.) At the same time, hiring good interns has been cumbersome affair for small to medium scale ventures and startups. Founded in 2006 by four IIT (M) graduates, now HelloIntern is owned by Angaros Group. The group is presently promoted by  Aashish Malve and backed by Madhu Avalur, a serial entrepreneur and active angel at Hyderabad Angels. HelloIntern acts as an enabler for interns and companies looking for trainees.

Avalur began his entrepreneurial journey in 1995 at the age of 24 and has over 18 years of entrepreneurial experience across verticals such as gaming, media, entertainment and eCommerce, healthcare and financial services. On the other hand, in his last management role, Malve was heading the online marketing division of banking software products for Infosys. Prior to that he played an instrumental role as founding director and managed operations at GraphoNET (India), one of the first internet consulting companies in India.

How it started

The idea came into picture when four freshmen from IIT-Bombay looking for internships hit a roadblock. The lack of information about internship opportunities made them take the plunge into entrepreneurship through HelloIntern. Later on, in 2010, HelloIntern became a part of Angaros Group, a Singapore-based company.

Current traction

Over the past few years the company has been growing with decent pace and constantly growing database of students and placing them successfully. Currently with internship opportunities spread across 180+ cities in India and worldwide - HelloIntern has more than 2400+ companies registered on its platform. “We are also strongly connected with premier institutes across the Indian and Global markets like IIT Kanpur, IIT Bombay, BITS Pilani – Dubai Campus, NIT Trichy and Karnataka including several others,” says Malve.

Major features and HelloIntern under new promoters

Hellointern uses the right mix of technology and human expertise to help interns find the right opportunity. For its Global Internship programme HelloIntern provides platform where collaboration is the key and interns from various countries work together to gain insights and cross cultural experience. “Being part of the Angaros Group, we are able to provide access to industry leaders in a variety of roles and industries. Some of the interns get a unique opportunity to learn and be mentored by these experienced entrepreneurs, executives and leaders,” adds Malve.

Challenges and road ahead

The foremost challenge is to be able to provide the right fit from the company/organization perspective. Another challenge is to stay ahead of competition and ensure it stands out from a number of existing and new players in this space. “With new ownership, we have started slew of initiatives and are in the process of re-establishing HelloIntern as market leader in India and also on a global scale’” says Malve.

HelloIntern plans to focus on connecting the Indian and Global student community via its internship programs. “We are working towards creating an entrepreneurial ecosystem to boost the entrepreneurial spirit among the students and nurture them into future leaders,” signs off Malve.
