YourStory App Fridays - All about mobile apps

YourStory App Fridays - All about mobile apps

Monday April 28, 2014 , 2 min Read

Today you wouldn't be surprised to know that more than 50% of Flipkart’s sales revenue comes from mobile. With mobile dominating over traditional laptops and desktops, it is no longer a question of entering the mobile space, but how quickly you are pushing your business forward.

Just a couple of days back, Facebook announced $2.5 billion in revenue for the first quarter of 2014. Of that, $2.27 billion came from advertisements. But what is interesting to note is that about 59% of it came from mobile ads. Facebook now has more than 1 billion monthly active mobile users -- an amazing growth over the past few years. Out of these 1 billion users, over 600 million are active on a daily basis and some 341 million people only use their mobile devices to access Facebook.

According to Gartner’s new report, by 2017, mobile apps will be downloaded more than 268 billion times, generating revenue of more than $77 billion. That makes apps one of the most popular computing tools for users across the globe. By 2017, mobile apps would have become mainstream, giving immense opportunities for new startups to connect with users.
