Exclusive: Web and mobile based security solution Wegilant raises one crore INR from Gaurav Sharma, Ravi Gururaj & others
Wegilant is a startup in the field of IT security that was founded by Toshendra Kumar Sharma in April 2011, which has raised around one crore INR in a funding round led by Gaurav Sharma, Director, Yahoo Inc, Ravi Gururaj and Mumbai-based RippleWave, among others.
The raised fund will be used in strengthening the team and product development. The Mumbai-based company primarily deals with IT security. Wegilant offers strategies, capabilities, and technologies necessary to help businesses pre-emptively protect Web applications and IT infrastructure from threats.
A SAAS-based product company, Wegilant has started making a foray into the products space with Appvigil.
Speaking exclusively to YourStory, Toshendra, CEO, Wegilant, said, “The company was started as a student venture while I was studying in IIT, Bombay, and bootstrapped with training business. We were profitable earlier but now we have shifted our focus from training to product completely.”
The startup’s flagship product Appvigil helps developers/QA managers/App store administrators identify security and privacy vulnerabilities during app development life-cycle and reduces the chances of being damaged on production level where cost of recovery is huge.
Toshendra, an IIT Bombay alumnus incubated Wegilant at IIT-Bombay’s SINE. The company started out by offering security audit services for websites, networks, wireless networks, mobile devices and applications, and compliance of IT regulations.
