Digital marketing training company Digital Vidya acquires Digital Academy India

Digital marketing training company Digital Vidya acquires Digital Academy India

Thursday May 21, 2015 , 3 min Read

Started by IIT Delhi alumni and serial entrepreneurs Pradeep Chopra and Kapil Nakra in 2009, Digital Vidya is a digital marketing training company (online courses, certificates and workshops). The company has announced the acquisition of Digital Academy India, another Indian digital marketing education firm. The terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed but post acquisition, the management team of Digital Academy India has completely exited the venture.

Digital Academy India was founded in August 2012 by the husband-wife entrepreneur duo, Aditi Oberoi and Gaurav Oberoi. The management team was later joined by Anannya Roy Sen as a Senior Partner. The team has trained more than 5,000 professionals across the country and their flagship program is a Certification Program in Digital Marketing (CPDM). Digital Academy has also trained digital marketing teams of companies on customized corporate training programs.

Speaking on this acquisition, Digital Vidya’s CEO & Co-founder Pradeep Chopra said, “Having Digital Academy India as a part of our family will further strengthen our leadership position in digital marketing training industry. This acquisition will help us expand our reach and further enhance the quality of our digital marketing certification programs for our customers and partners by leveraging the strengths and experience of Digital Academy India.”

Digital Vidya has been steadily growing since the past six years and claims to have contributed to the growth of over 6000 professionals from over 3000 brands across Asia through over 300 digital marketing training programs. Certified Digital Marketing Master (CDMM), a digital marketing master certification course offered in association with Vskills, a Govt. of India initiative is Digital Vidya’s flagship course. Digital Vidya also offers customized in-house digital marketing training programs for corporations and has served over 100 organizations such as Philips, Intuit, GE, Cisco, Times Internet, Citibank, Adobe, etc.

Mahesh Murthy, Managing Partner, Seedfund and Founder Pinstorm says, "I've had the pleasure of knowing and working with Pradeep and Kapil for over a decade. And I've been an eyewitness to the growth of their baby, Digital Vidya over the last five years. I'm proud of the fact they've now made their first acquisition - and this further leads me to believe that they will rule the market when it comes to training on digital marketing in India - a fast-booming field." Explaining the space in terms of numbers, Pradeep shares a recent report by GroupM which says that digital advertising will account for 9.51% of overall ad spend of Rs 49,000 crore in India in 2015. Among various ad channels, digital will show the fastest growth of 37%. To cater to this growth, Digital Vidya, as a training pad is nicely poised.

The space around digital marketing is also seeing consolidation. Most recently, Mumbai based Social Samosa found an exit when private investors bought the firm for an estimates INR 2-3 crores. Online training is also growing fast in India with companies like Simplilearn and Edukart making inroads. Digital Vidya covers the niche of digital marketing training and it’ll be interesting to see how the company evolves in the coming years.
