This startup is set to drive a new movement in electric mobility by unveiling India’s fastest electric motorcycle

This article is brought to you by Tork Motorcycles.

“Driving a motorcycle is like flying. All your senses are alive.”

This sentiment of Hugh Laurie, celebrity actor, director, writer and musician, will definitely resonate with motorcycle aficionados. A motorcycle is more than just a vehicle for true biking enthusiasts. It is a culmination of their passion, emotion and lifestyle. For some it is a way to connect with their spiritual side on long drives through pristine landscapes, for others it is a love affair.

While all of this is true when we talk about gasoline motorcycles, this kind of reverence has not been enjoyed by their electric counterparts yet. Till now, critics have discounted the obvious benefits of electric motorcycles such as clean energy, superior acceleration, and low cost of ownership, in favour of the higher range and short refuelling time offered by gasoline motorcycles.

However, Tork Motorcycles is all set to change this perception. This startup has broken the mould of electric two-wheelers in India and with their indigenous design and smart features. After patiently working for six long years and carving a niche for themselves on the racetracks, Tork is now ready to unveil their first commercial motorcycle which will hit the Indian roads very soon.

The credentials speak volumes about this startup’s work. The earlier generation of this motorcycle has many feats to its credit, including podium finishes at the 2009 Isle of Man TTX-GP and 2010 TTX-GP Championship. In 2012, one of their prototypes recorded a 0-100 kmph sprint in 8.7 seconds and completed the 400-metre drag race demo run at the Valley Run in 18.7 seconds. In the world of electric motorcycle racing, these are indeed commendable achievements.

Since their inception in 2009, Tork has garnered appreciation for participating in 17 domestic and international race circuits and winning internationally-acclaimed electric motorcycle races such as the Isle of Man - TTXGP, competing against the likes of Honda (Mugen racing), Brammo (Victory).

The founder says this electric motorcycle belongs to a racing pedigree and has been built ground-up by a team of motorcycle-loving designers, engineers and operations professionals. The vehicle is engineered to travel at a top speed of 100kmph, and runs 100 km on a single charge. The navigation system syncs up with the user’s phone through an in-house app and shares information such the bike’s range, distance-to-empty, battery health, among others. In short, the users get to know about the bike’s functioning and health in real time, and track everything on the cloud. The fact that Tork Motorcycles have achieved all this without any foreign technology tie-ups makes the story all the more fascinating.

This smart electric bike is sure to give the petrol engine motorcycles serious competition in terms of style and even performance. From superior acceleration to quick charging time, and superior technological features, this bike could be a winner on the Indian roads.

Tork is launching this smart machine at TechSparks 16, India’s largest entrepreneurship summit on September 30 in Bangalore.

Gear up to see T6X – a stylish motorcycle of a different calibre.
