Infosys bags IT Ratna of Karnataka award

IT major Infosys has bagged the IT Ratna of Karnataka award for the company’s consistent and outstanding performance in IT exports in the above Rs 10,000 crore category and for being the highest exporter and employer in Karnataka.

Apart from Infy, 22 other companies were awarded for their respective contributions to the state, 10 of which bagged the IT Pride of Karnataka awards given away by STPI and the Karnataka government.

These awards were given away at BengaluruITE.biz this evening at a glittering ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, Omkar Rai, Director — General, Software Technology Parks of India (STPI), said the central government wants to take broadband to every nook and corner of the country to promote entrepreneurship.

Rai said,

India can move up the value chain by riding the wave of domestic growth.

Karnataka Principal Secretary IT, BT and S&T, V Manjula called upon more investors to move to tier 2 and 3 cities, which the state government has tried its best to turn into innovative hubs.

STPI has played an important role in promoting the growth of the IT sector in Bengaluru and Karnataka in partnership with the state. Exports from STPI units in the country in the IT sector amount to about Rs 3 lakh crore, out of which STPI units from Karnataka have contributed about 40 percent, or Rs 1.25 lakh crore.

More importantly, STPI units of tier 2 cities such as Mangaluru, Hubballi-Dharwad, and Mysuru have contributed to IT exports worth Rs 4,000 crore.

The STPI IT Exports Awards have been given during the state’s flagship event BengaluruITE.biz since 1998, which is co-hosted by STPI, underlining the strong cooperation and collaboration between STPI and the Dept of IT, BT & S&T.

An eminent committee consisting of representatives from STPI — Government of India, Government of Karnataka, Academia, Media and Industry have scrutinised the performance of the IT companies in terms of consistency in exports, employment and other related parameters, and have recommended the awards under the following categories, covering the entire spectrum of IT, ITES and Electronics and Hardware Exporting Companies.
