Biju George appointed Women In Blue's fielding coach ahead of World Cup
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appointed Biju George the fielding coach of the Indian women's cricket team. The renowned coach is likely to join the team when the Women in Blue prepare for the ICC Women's World Cup 2017 in Mumbai, June 6 onward.
Biju has served as the fielding coach for the national Under-19 women's team and was also previously Kuwait's head coach. He is also a prominent figure in the Kerala cricket circuit, and has coached teams across age groups—from the little league of Under-14 to Under-25, and even trained the team for the Ranji Trophy in 2008. He has also coached Thiruvananthapuram Medical College's men's squad and is credited to have readied the likes of Sanju Samson.
As far as his contributions to the industry go, he has designed and conducted level-0 coaching classes for the Kerala Cricket Association, and even regularly conducts training camps all over Kerala and in Bengaluru. Currently, he works as a talent scout for the Kolkata Knight Riders.
The national women’s team is on a dream run, having clocked a 16-match-winning streak, the second longest in women’s ODIs. The World Cup, which is to be held in England and Wales, will take place from June 24 and runs until July 23. Hence, the team arrive in UK one week before the official warm-up matches, set up camp at Loughborough MCC University, play a practice match against England on June 13, and then move to Derbyshire where they are slated to play two warm-up games against New Zealand (June 19) and Sri Lanka (June 21).
With this new development, this is what the Indian women's team's support staff squad looks like:
