Daughter of auto rickshaw driver topped Gujarat class 12 boards, still unsure of future
The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board rolled out the results of the class 12 board exams on May 11, 2017. This announcement brought immense happiness to a 17-year-old girl from Ahmedabad. Farhana Bavani, who scored 99.72 percentile, has topped the science stream. She is the daughter of an auto rickshaw driver, Farooqbhai, who is the sole breadwinner of the family.
Farhana studied from FD High School, Juhapura and is fully aware of her financial constraints. This news has indeed brought a lot of joy to her but she is a little skeptical at the same time. The family was elated as well and also celebrated her success.
Farhana who has always aspired to be a doctor also took her National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) examination this year. According to Indian Express, Farhana said,
The Gujarati-medium paper of NEET was very difficult as compared to the English-medium one. The rigid rules for NEET exam were unnecessary. We were so sure that my result would be so good that I would get a free seat for MBBS. But the NEET paper surprisingly didn’t go well.
According to Ahmedabad Mirror, Farhana said,
There were lots of translation errors in NEET's question paper, so I could not understand some questions properly. I couldn't perform as per expectations. As the merit of CBSE and GSEB would be common, I am not sure whether I would get an admission in MBBS or not.
While talking to Indian Express, her mother said,
We have just one wish—the government must separate the Gujarati and English-medium results. Maybe then our daughter’s work and dedication will yield results.
Farhana, who studied for more than 10 hours a day as the exams drew nearer, is a little disappointed. She wished to get admission in BJ Medical College in Ahmedabad. However, she is now scared that having not performed as well as expected will hamper her chances.
Farhana has gone the extra mile and put in so much effort to score tremendously well in her class 12 examinations. It would be disheartening to see her unable to fulfil her dreams due to financial constraints and the NEET's current scoring system. With the NEET results still not out, let's hope she is able to crack the examination and fulfil her dreams.
