Tushar Rishi: from fighting cancer to scoring 95% in CBSE board exams

Tushar Rishi, a 19-year-old student from Ranchi, who has been a victim of cancer has broken the shackles and scored 95 percent in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) class 12 board examinations, 2017. From going through check-ups, once every three months, at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi to scoring with flying colours, Tushar's journey has been troublesome yet extremely inspirational.

Tushar scored 95 in English, 95 in physics, 93 in mathematics, 89 in computer and 100 in fine arts. Speaking with Hindustan Times, Tushar said,

I am in a much better condition now after all the treatments. But I have to visit AIIMS every three to four months for checkups and updates on my health.The bone cancer was detected just after my Class 10 mock exams in 2014. I was under chemotherapy for around 11 months. It has obviously changed me a lot, but I try and stay focused on my academics

Cancer was detected in Tushar's left knee in 2014 when he was about to give his 10th standard board exams, studying at Delhi Public School. After chemotherapy, Tushar returned back to the exam centres and scored a full 10 CGPA. Tushar wants to break stereotypes by going for Literature or Economics at the University of Delhi rather than taking up Engineering. Despite all the struggle, Tushar never gave up and even went on to author a book 'The Patient Patient' which, reportedly, is doing good on Amazon.in.

According to Hindustan Times, Tushar's mother Ritu Agarwal, a faculty member at the Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, said,

He was solely dependent on the classes at school as he did not go to tuition. I am more than happy with his performance. I have seen him battle cancer and I know how difficult it was for him. I hope he stays healthy and achieves all his career goals.

Despite the diagnosis and treatment, Tushar's strong willpower gives us all a lot of motivation. He still has to go through a strict diet and proper medication to avoid any more problems in the future. We, at Think Change India, wish him the best. More power to you, Tushar.
