Once a peon, Chhotu Sharma now has his own business with Rs 10cr turnover
There are many who dream but only those are who put in the hard work are able to realise their dreams. The story of Chhotu Sharma, who is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Chandigarh-based CS Group, is a testimony to that.
Hailing from a small village in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh, Chhotu Sharma started his career as a peon. The determination to succeed further in life motivated him to work during the day and study during the night. Today, this same man is the owner of two software companies in Chandigarh which have a yearly turnover of Rs 10 crore.
Chhotu completed his graduation from Dhaliara College in Kangra in the year 1998 and did not have even have Rs 5,000 to pursue a computer course. However, he knew that a computer course was important to work at any place, and decided to come to Chandigarh.
Due to his financial circumstances, Chhotu knew he could not get an admission anywhere. Thus, he started working as a peon at a computer centre. After completing a computer course at that centre itself, he became a certified Microsoft Software Developer.
His financial situation was so bad that there were times when he had to sleep without food. Chhotu also began tutoring children to earn some extra money. He used to travel on a cycle and did not even own a computer. It was after two years of savings that he could buy a bike and a computer for himself.
After becoming a certified software developer, he was offered a job at Aptech Computer Centre as a faculty teacher. He would sit for classes in the evening and teach few other students during the afternoon. By the year 2000, he was able to earn decently for himself, but this was not his final goal.
Chhotu took a two bedroom flat on rent and started his own computer centre. Within a span of six months, there were nearly 80 students enrolled at his coaching centre. Most of his students get placed at huge companies with more than Rs 500 crore as turnover.
He then opened institutes named as CS Infotech at several places in 2007. Presently, there are more than 1,000 students training at the centre. Chhotu has offered employment to nearly 150 people and is actively involved in social service apart from helping out poor children.
