After repaying the debt of Maharashtra farmers, Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan will now pay off loans of 1,398 farmers in Uttar Pradesh. The actor in a blog post said:

“Gratitude leans across to the desire of removing some of the burdens that farmers continue to suffer from... It was Maharashtra first, when over 350 farmers’ loans were taken care of...Now it’s UP and 1,398 of them that had outstandings of loans on banks has been done with an outlay of Rs 4.05 crore. The actor has also arranged for a meeting on November 26 with 70 farmers who will be traveling from Uttar Pradesh to Mumbai to receive their bank letters, said his spokesperson.

The actor said he has done an ‘OTS - One Time Settlement with the Bank of India’, reports The Quint.

When approached by a news agency, his official spokesperson confirmed: “Yes, Mr Bachchan has cleared the loans of 1,398 farmers from Uttar Pradesh. He had earlier paid off loans of Maharashtra farmers and now he has done so for the farmers in debt in UP. Around 70 farmers have been chosen to personally travel and receive the bank letters directly from Mr. Bachchan in Mumbai.”

Earlier this year, the 76-year-old actor, who was attending the Sayaji Ratna Award, helped over 350 farmers by paying off their debts and gave away compensation to 44 martyrs of Maharashtra. Amitabh, along with his wife Jaya Bachchan, handed over the money to the farmers and the families of martyrs in their Mumbai residence.
